Dream catchers made by local artist Georgina Julian. Dream catchers are protective talisman used to protect people from nightmares or bad dreams. It started out as a spider web that helped a little boy with bad dreams during his time of becoming a man. If you look closely at a dream catcher you can see a spider in the web.

Black Ash baskets are made by local men and woman – Virick Francis, James Simon and Patricia Simon. Baskets have been around for many years. Using Black Ashe, they weave traditional basketry and finish them with a touch of sweet grass. In days gone by, the Mi’kmaw of Eskasoni crafted as many basket as they could, selling them to families all over Cape Breton Island. The baskets were also used for traditional hunting and fishing, and for picking medicines and berries.

Crafted by local potter Nancy Oakley, these exceptional pots are polished with river-stone to achieve a natural shine. Smoked in a traditional firing using fir tips, seaweed and/or sawdust, they are then finished with traditional sweet grass.
